PHP error I can’t update my site
-
An updated version of WordPress is available.
You cannot update because WordPress 5.2.2 requires PHP version 5.6.20 or higher. You are running version 5.4.45.While your site is being updated, it will be in maintenance mode. As soon as your updates are complete, your site will return to normal.
If I can’t update wordpress to fix the problem…what do i do?????
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m not very good with any of this and none of it makes sense. What steps do I take to fix these. And does Word Press not have a support chat??

And does Word Press not have a support chat??
WordPress.com (here) has LiveChat support for upgraded sites that are actually hosted here at WordPress.com but your site isn’t. It is hosted at BlueHost. The correct support forum for sites using the WordPress.org software is:

Thank you for replying. I’ve been using the wordpress forums for over an hour. I’ve followed the instructions and nothing is working. Please help!!

I’m sorry but sites here in the WordPress.com environment don’t need to bother with upgrades/security issues such as you are facing. That all happens behind the scenes for us. You’ll need to register an account with the correct support forum.

Have you checked with your hosting provider? I seem to recall updating php through cPanel when I had a self hosted site as you do. The php version is managed via your web host, not via WordPress.
If you want to see what others have recommended who use your version of WordPress, go to t WordPress.org forums and search update php. They will most likely recommend contact your web host.
Or go to the Bluehost site and find their documentation

As has been said before, this is NOT a topic for WordPress.com. We do not have to worry about that because that kind of maintenance is taken care of by WordPress.com.
And the references provided by themagicrobot gave the background as to why that is the case.
