  I would like to ensure my hosting account is running
  PHP 7.2 or newer, and the latest version of WordPress.
  If I am not already on the latest version of PHP or WP,
  please let me know what steps I need to take
  to update.

  If you are referring to your WordPressdotcom hosted site, sites on WordPress.com do not have access to upgrade our PHP nor do we need to. All that is taken care of for us by our Happiness Engineers.
