PHP Website Portfolio

    Hello,

I used to manage my portfolio website here on wordpress, in the past I created my own .php files to create a custom theme for my website.
This was possible because I used to have the ability to just install a simple file manager plug-in for free to edit and manage my custom theme, is there a way to do that again without a business plan ?

If not, I’d like to review my options for a refund as I’m not prepared to pay the business plan fees for a simple portfolio website.

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: No
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

I used to manage my portfolio website here on wordpress, in the past I created my own .php files to create a custom theme for my website. Based on what you are describing, it sounds like you may have had a self-hosted websites, which are sites that you create on a “traditional web host” like Bluehost, GoDaddy, etc. The self-hosted version of WordPress is more advanced and completely DIY, but would also allow you to add 3rd party plugins or themes.

WordPress.com is a bit different in that we’re a “managed host” which means we provide a fully managed hosting platform that is optimized for WordPress and offers the best performance and stability possible, as well as built in backups, spam protection, security scans, automatic software updates, and in-house support for any WordPress site questions you have. More info here: https://wordpress.com/hosting

If not, I’d like to review my options for a refund as I’m not prepared to pay the business plan fees for a simple portfolio website.

At this point I can confirm you have cancelled the personal plan and domain on your account and issued a refund for your original purchase amount. You can see a receipt confirming this refund here:  https://wordpress.com/me/billing

You can expect to see the funds in your account, but it can take a billing cycle or two depending on your institution. More info: https://wordpress.com/support/refunds/#when-do-i-get-my-refund

Since you mentioned that you are comfortable with editing PHP, it sounds like you may be more comfortable with self-managing the optimizations we’ve built in by default, so the Business Plan may be more than you need.

If you are looking for a good web host for your self-hosted site, we recommend the following providers, who all offer easy-to-use wizards to help you get your first WordPress site set up and running:

That said, most major web hosting providers will work, so you can just ask if the one you are interested in supports WordPress.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
