Physical security threatened because deleted file still in WP cache

    Hi!

I have a sensitive request regarding the physical well-being of a woman in the Middle East. We have published a picture of her on our site, and need to remove it to protect her physical well-being.

I deleted the page with the image, and then the image from the media library. It’s still cached by WordPress.com, and comes up high in Google search results. So I ask for the image to be deleted from cache as soon as possible.

I have written a draft on my page with further details regarding the security situation, and a link to the image file.

If someone can mark this thread so admins can see it, I would much appreciate it! Thank you.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I have done so. But I have some bad news.

If you have deleted the image from the image library, it’ll be gone within a very few hours at the most. But then you have a job to do with search engines: You will have to contact every search engine, and by that I mean Google.com, Google.ca, Google.co.uk, etc, etc, plus Yahoo, plus Bing, and ask them all to remove the cache. Otherwise it can linger in those search engine caches for several months.

Yup, I’m aware of this. For most pictures distributed in other sites I’ve already done that. But yeah, it is a huge hassle…

    Thanks for contacting the admins!

I’m going to send you a private e-mail so we can look into this in more detail.

@lizthefair – I know the OP can’t replace the image & page – – but is it possible for staff or developers to replace the image with a different image (maybe just a blank 1x1px thing) – and to bring the page back (if the title is not a security issue) with a “The contents have been deleted by Author”??

Then when search engines crawl the site the old security problem info is replaced with blank stuff – that might help search engines purge the original content quicker – sometimes FTP access can be useful

auxclass–this case involves some elements not to be discussed in public, but I assure you we will do what can be done.

@lizthefair – I am well aware the TOS & safety issues are moved out of the forum, I did not expect any specific info on what the issue is beyond what the OP posted in the original post – my only reason in posting my suggestion is that they are options available with a .ORG install and I know that the Staff and others are super users on all of our sites and might have the option of getting around the limitations I have as a blog Admin – so it was a suggestion in case you and others had not thought of swapping files with harmless ones
