picscout and image licensing

Today I noticed on my blog’s stat page, in the search engine referrer section, a site listed as Picscout. After reading about Picscout, I found that it is a search bot looking for illegal usage of images. I get the vast majority of my images from Bing images under the licensing filter- free share and use images and I assumed that those images are free to use, but after some considerable reading today, I am very uncertain about what that exactly means. The more I read the more I feel that I shouldn’t use any image unless I am willing to pay money. I also found that if you are using a Getty image, even if it is unintentional they will go after you very hard even possibly suing.
Most of the images that I think the bot looked at were of cartoons that I have displayed. I have directly contacted the artist and he is very happy for me to use them and in fact has my blog listed on his website, so there is no conflict of usage in that manner.
Has anyone else run into Picscout and what is the best way of finding decent images that are free to use?

No experience with Picscout and almost 100% of the images I use are ones I took myself specifically for a particular article
Getty has some sort of licensing agreement with WordPress.COM to enable Getty images to be used here – but they do have some very specific licensing requirements, you need to read the ones specific to WordPress.COM – I used a couple of their images for another of my sites –
