this used to be quick and easy but I can’t see how to do it on the new editor, the option to add custom html is not there

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

I’m not sure what you mean by “pictorial link widget” so I’m hoping you can tell us a bit more about what you are trying to set up. Do you mean you are trying to add single images to your sidebar, and if someone clicks on the image it will take them to another page URL? Or were you trying to do something else like add an image gallery for a group of images?

    Thanks for the additional info!

The former. I’ve often done this on other blogs and it takes seconds. Here is an example from a blog that uses the same template:

It appears in the main sidebar with several others.

    It looks like this:

I’d like to place it above the search bar. Thanks.

  • Hi there,

You can insert an Image block in your sidebar widget area (Appearance > Widgets) and then add a custom link to it by clicking on the link icon on the block’s toolbar. Here’s a screenshot to locate that icon:

Hope that helps. If you need more help, let me know.

My menu does not resemble yours, nor the one in the video, the page slows down firefox and has to be stopped. Clicking on the icons does nothing, nor does searching for ‘image’. By trial and error I managed to recreate the html format I show above, and it seems to work. I’m still not sure how I did it and the software did its best to thwart me so I had to type it all in one go from memory without switching tabs.

All I want is a way to get my code into position on the sidebar and edit as necessary. This used to be so quick and simple, why these silly changes? We had three of us on it for hours. Even using this forum is counter intuitive, I wish they would leave us alone to what we are used to.
