Pictorico – featured-content, header image text and "older posts" button

I have questions based on the excellent “example” blog:
http://discoveringbelgium.com/ and the instructions found here:
    http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/pictorico/

i have downloaded and installed wordpress 3.9.1 on my linux server. most things run really well: http://www.davies.com/worpress/

re: setting up the post slider:
Navigate to Appearance → Customize → Featured Content.
No where in my dashboard, under Appearance->Customize does the string “Featured Content” appear. I suspect this is a difference between the theme on wordpress.com and a downloaded theme running on a local server. Would love to know how to solve this.

referring to the Belgium site: How does the text appear in each image in the top slider? Where does the text come from?

If the number of posts to display is set to 16 (4×4 grid) how does one get the “Older Posts” button to appear at the bottom of the grid as in the Belgium site above?

I’m a WP newbie but am up for being embarrassed. All help and suggestions very much appreciated.

Since your blog is not setup here at WordPress.com, you need to also install the Jetpack plugin to make the featured content feature work. Check to make sure Jetpack is installed and activated.

That is the post title and an automatically generated excerpt of the text.

You must install the Jetpack plugin to get that feature to work. If Jetpack is installed and activated and the Infinite Scroll module is enabled, then you should see an “Older Posts” button like the one at http://pictoricodemo.wordpress.com/ if the Settings > Reading > Scroll Infinitely button is unchecked.

Because you are not hosted here at WordPress.com, please post at http://wordpress.org/support/theme/pictorico for further help.
