Pictorico – "featured content" option missing from Appeance->Customize menu

if I compare the Appearance->Customize UI between my worpress.com account and my self-hosted WordPress server, then the option “Featured Content” is missing in the self-hosted case. This option is necessary to set up the theme’s “post slider” as described in http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/pictorico/
In the wordpress.com menu on the right hand side of the frame the options presented are:
Custom Design, Colors, Header, Front, Site Title, Featured Content, Widgets:, footer sidebar 1, 2, 3, 4
in the self-hosted WordPress the equivalent menu options on the left side of the frame are:
Site Title & Tagline, Colors, Header Image, Background Image, Navigation, Static Front Page, Widgets: Footer Siderbar 1,2,3,4

i’m running latest, version of wordpress (3.9.1) and the Pictorio theme. Running on gentoo linux 2.12.13 (latest)

You need to post to the WordPress.ORG support forum for help with your site because it is not hosted by WordPress.COM.

WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate and have different logins, features and run different versions of some themes with the same names http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.
