Shoreditch has a recommended featured image size of 2000 x 1500 pixels. That size is suggested so that the theme can adjust properly for all screen/window widths from desktop all the way down to phones. The cropping that occurs is pretty minimal considering.

That said, your image on the second post at 1500 x 768 is pretty close to no crop. On desktop monitors, the featured image area in the posts is about 580 x 266, so you may want to try an image that is in proportions of 2.2 wide x 1 high and see how that works. Make sure and view things on a tablet and phone to see how things look.

Since the theme and WordPress software create the cropped image on the fly as needed, we can’t change the size or cropping with CSS, it would require editing of the theme php script files and we cannot do that at WordPress.com.

Hi thesacredpath, my big issue is when seeing on mobile – horizontal mode – the crop is really huge and nothing can be understood from the pictures… espically the texts…

Is there any solution to this? is there a recomended size? I tried the exact 2000×15000 but the result is not good.
Hope you have some clues abput it :)

    thanks!

  • As Richard mentioned, we can’t control how images are cropped on different screen sizes. Featured images in Shoreditch will work best without text on them.

You can see all recommended sizes in the Quick Specs box at the bottom of the page here:

    https://wordpress.com/themes/shoreditch/

Just bear in mind that adding an image at that size doesn’t mean it won’t be cropped at certain screen sizes. :)
