Picture Export to Self-Hosted Site

  I am in the process of moving my blog from wordpress.com (an exposition.com) to a self-hosted site? However, when I try to export my blog, only 20 of the photos are imported into my new self-hosted site. How can I fix this?

  Also, If I move my domain name to another server, does everything stay active on an exposition.wordpress.com?

  Hi emikoatherton,

  Right now, exporting from WordPress.com does not include all media files. To include these images on your self-hosted site, you’ll need to re-upload the images manually into your self-hosted site’s media library.

  You can either map the domain to your new hosting, or transfer the domain altogether to a new registrar. Either way, your content will still be available for free at exposition.wordpress.com as long as you wish.

  Regarding the WordPress Guided Transfer service, I see the service includes “Transferring over the content from your WordPress.com site”. In this case, does “content” include images and links?

  In other words,

  1. Will my media library be migrated to my new host/site?
  2. Will links within my posts pointing to other posts be updated? (e.g. One of my posts links to an earlier post: myCURRENTsite.com/?post=2. Will links like these be updated to myNEWsite.com/?post=2)

  Hi Emiko,

  The Guided Transfer service will help you get the media library setup correctly.

  Links published in posts and pages will transfer automatically over in the Export process. However the links don’t have any automatic changes, so if you ever linked to anexposition.wordpress.com — that link won’t automatically change to anexposition.com.

  Since you’ve been blogging under the custom domain anexposition.com, the links in general shouldn’t be an issue. If you’re planning on changing domain names, then yes, those links would break and guided transfer service would not include adjusting them all.
