Picture Frames
-
Hello, I asked this with another question which was kindly answered. This one is waiting, so I thought that I would try again with it’s own post.
I’m wondering what I clicked on that suddenly took some of my pictures out of the little square frames that used to go around them (with a few words I had written describing each picture under them)? They’ve mysteriously disappeared on some posts, leaving only the plain photo (and the words under them but to the left). I’d like to get those frames back. Any Ideas? :)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hey @midmiocene,
While your theme, Ascetica is a little outdated, and unavailable for me to test in my admin area, I have combed through some of the code on your website to see what differences there are between an image with a white border and caption, and an image without.
To put it in non technical terms, basically what I have found is that the images missing the caption and border are missing a sort of “wrapper” that adds these items to the photo.
What I would do first, is the following:
1. When editing a post, click on a photo missing the border and caption, ensure it is highlighted, and give it an alignment (left, center, or right).

2. Give that photo a caption by clicking the add caption button on the photo

This should give it a new wrapper that includes a caption and alignment, and as such, the style associated with it should show up.
Try this first and let us know if it works!

Did it again. Centered it (though that’s under the three small lines to the left on mine). Erased and added the same caption back, but it just stayed the same when I published it. No frame and caption under it to the left.

Hey @midmiocene,
Which post did you do this on? Let me know the title and I will have another look.

Hey there,
The way that WordPress generates code for images and captions has improved over the years and is different than what it used to be. Essentially, what has happened, is the new code hasn’t been styled within your theme because the theme you are using is outdated and unavailable anymore :(
If you did have a paid plan, this would be the work-around to maintain that styling in this theme you are using. You would have to go to your admin area and navigate to:
Appearance > Customize.
Then, under the ‘Additional CSS’ rollout on the left side, you would have to paste this code:
figure { border: 1px solid #ccc; text-align: center; overflow: hidden; padding: 2%; } figcaption { margin: 5px 0; font-size: .8em; line-height: 1em; color: #888; text-align: center; }Another, but more manual workaround, is after you insert an image, select it, and in the right-side menu under the Block tab you will see a number of settings for your image.
What you can do is scroll down to ‘Advanced’ and under ‘ADDITIONAL CSS CLASS(ES)’ and paste the following:
wp-captionThis will at least bring the border back on the image you uploaded.
I hope this clarifies the issue for you and provides you with a couple of options for workarounds!

Hmm, thanks, Mountaingoat76. Well that gave it a border, but now it’s a huge one that stretches down to the top of the next picture…
