Picture not displaying

  • Unknown's avatar

In my latest post, I edited the picture and now the thumbnail picture doesn’t display. I deleted it a few times and kept reposting but it still doesn’t show the picture before you click ‘more.’ Can anyone help?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The thumbnail images on the posts page are cropped from featured images. Not sure what you mean by “reposting,” but if you republish a post, you’ll have to add the featured image each time.

Reposting means posting it more than once. I’ve never set a featured image for any of the others and they all have a thumbnail for each post before you click on it to see more text

Okay, sorry. Evidently this theme works differently than most. I don’t have time to investigate right now, but I’ll try to look into it later today. Or you could call for staff attention by adding a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of this topic.

    @ matchamilady,

The featured image is now displaying on the most recent post of the posts page, as it is on the others. Have you resolved the issue?

    @musicdoc1

I put the featured image on it to see if it worked and it did. But I now have an odd page where half of the picture is shown at the top which spoils the post for me

Yes, that is an unsatisfactory workaround and result. I’ve tagged the topic for staff attention.

@musicdoc1 thanks. I’ve just posted a new post and it’s now doing the same so I’ve had to put the featured image again which I didn’t have to do before

    Hi matchamilady,

I just did some testing with The Columnist theme and did notice that the first image in the post will be used as the thumbnail if no featured image is set. If a featured image is set it will always be used.

I tested editing an image and saving but the thumbnail was still set. Could you post a link to the post you are having trouble with in this thread and we’ll take a look?

With regards to the featured image showing at the top of your page, this is from the Theme Documentation.

If you assign a feature image to one of your posts it will display differently depending on which template you are viewing. For instance: on the home page as well as all other pages that display multiple posts, your featured image will appear cropped at 180 pixels wide by 180 pixels tall. In cases where your original uploaded featured image is 610 pixles wide or wider, it will also appear at the very top of single posts and pages.

The theme is designed to show the featured image at the top if the image is larger than 610px wide. If you upload a featured image smaller than 610px it will be used for the thumbnail but not shown at the top.

@bdukes I did an experiment and added bits of pictures to the featured bit for my next posts because they all came out as blank. I got a picture in the end but it doesn’t explain why all of a sudden the format has changed.

This one I changed to get a picture on the main menu

    https://matchamilady.wordpress.com/2015/07/06/tuppence-beresford-style-2/

This one I changed but the picture has now gone at the top and it looks like the earlier posts I posted in content but the picture of it on the menu is the feature that I set earlier. Does that make sense? If not and you don’t find a solution, I’ll just continue posting those snapshots to get a feature picture for the menu and the blog posts will just look a bit uneven. Thanks for your help in advance

    Hi matchamilady,

After some further testing is appears that to have the thumbnail show on your front page you must upload the image to the media library from the page.

In other words, you must hit the “Add Media” button from within the post you are writing then use the “Upload Files” tab to add your image. If you select an image previously uploaded to the Media Library from the “Media Library” tab instead of uploading the file to the post you will need to go back and “Attach” the image to the post. See this guide on attaching media:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/media/unattached-files/#reattaching-files

You could also just use the featured image function and make sure the images are smaller than 610px wide to prevent them from showing up in the header of the site.

Being a food blogger, I use the theme Cubic to show off my food photos and hopefully entice readers in. In the home view, it shows many posts.

For some reason on just two posts (in the home view), instead of showing the image at the top of the post it shows another?
    Here is an example:
This is the image I want to be displayed
    https://wannabetvchefblog.wordpress.com/2015/06/28/the-guild-of-food-writers-2015-awards/

But when you see the same post on the home page a different photo from the article is displayed.

I love the overall impact of WordPress, but I wish the designers were better at setting out the dashboard and admin area to make it easy to learn and use. If only WordPress worked as well as it’s designers thinks it does? In my book, good design should be based on ease of use.

When I teach cookery, I don’t try to blind people with complex processes, to show how clever I am.

The blog I need help with is wannabetvchefblog.wordpress.com.

  • kevinashton – I’ll move your other post into the Themes forum and reply there, since your question is unrelated to the topic of this thread.
