Picture not filling the width of the blog page

  I have used an iPhone photo for the first time on my blog and I used a portrait photo (as opposed to landscape) and now I can’t get rid of the words to the right of the picture on the page. Usually my photos go across the whole page and the text goes under them. Do I have to take all my photos as a landscape or is there any way I can move the few words under the photo. I want to use these photos but this post is spoiling my whole blog. Do I need to resize or crop these photos before bringing them into wordpress?
