Picture not loading to Facebook

  Hi,

  I find it a little strange that if I post a short link on my wall on Facebook a picture from the relevant post is shown, but if it’s sent directly from dashboard (publicize FB is ticked), only the text appears on FB. Do others experience the same? Could the reason be that the pictures are URLs and not actually uploaded to WordPress? If the latter is the case, perhaps this could be fixed somehow? Or perhaps I am doing something wrong?

  Hello there,
  The image that Facebook selects is entirely up to them. They use a very strict set of criteria which we have absolutely no control over. There isn’t currently a way to pick out the image manually for a WordPress.com post unless you are using a theme that supports featured images. http://en.support.wordpress.com/featured-images/ If a featured image isn’t set or your theme doesn’t use featured images, then the code tries to pick the first image in the post or page. If no image is found, then the blavatar is used, which is one reason you may have seen a logo in some cases. http://en.support.wordpress.com/avatars/blavatars/ Try making sure the first image in the post or page is the one you want to see used.

  Thanks, but think I may have been a little unclear. My problem is that although my post has one, two or three images, none of them appear on Facebook if the posting is done automatically from the dashboard when FB is checked, but if I post direct to Facebook with a short link the image appears. I can’t understand why. It would be nice to have to go via the short link. Perhaps I have misunderstood your reply?

  I’m sorry but I don’t have any information aside from what I posted above. I have been told that when posts directly to Facebook they don’t seem to have trouble with images. Perhaps another Volunteer or Staff can provide more information about this.
