Picture preview in media library does not show

  After uploading pictures to the media library it does not display the preview. Just the “blue crosses” (see below). if I upload an image into a post it also does not work.

  

  Similarly my themes don’t preview. Just the same “blue crosses”.

  

  Using WordPress 6.4.1.

  Have tried “regenerate thumbnails” plugin.

  Originally have been using Theme Default 1.7.2. But had temporarily switched to another theme. If I click live preview of the Default theme I get: “There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.”
