Picture sizing in Gather

I am trying to edit the picture size on the Gather theme home page for featured pictures. I want them to all be squares and the same size. If a picture is rectangular can there be added negative space to make them square?

Hi there, the theme and WordPress software create the images used “on-the-fly” for the front page post featured images from the originals and are created to make them fill the full width of the available space. If the height of those images is different, then they will appear with whatever height is necessary to prevent distortion of the image. This is not something that can be fixed with CSS.

My suggestion is to only use images that are of the same proportions, for example, 4:3. Example: 800px wide by 600px high. They should then all appear and take up the same height.

The Gather Theme Showcase page, in the Quick Specs section at the bottom of that page, suggest a width of 720px, but if you do something like 800 x 600 pixels, everything should be fine.
