Picture won’t show in IE browser

  • Unknown's avatar

Just posted on the blog with two pictures linked with URL. It seems people with Internet Explorer cannot see them (even by right-clicking and “show picture”). I did switch my computer’s browser yesterday to Firefox. But I’m not having trouble with other pictures I link to even out of Firefox. Both are jpegs. Do I need to do something special working out of Firefox?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The most recent 2? (The first one is humungous, btw, and really slows down loading. You might want to scale it down and optimize it for the web and re-upload it with a totally different and not similar name.)

Which version(s) of IE are we talking about here? What do they see? A blank or a little red X or .. ?

IE7 is what I am assuming. And what others have told me is that they have the little red x. But they can view all other pictures posted. Thanks for the advice on the size. I’ll see if I can’t remedy that.

Why are you assuming that? Plenty of people are still using IE6, which is horrid.

I’ll check it in IE8 and meantime you can search the FAQ for the entry on optimizing your images for the web.

Those images are 1.8 and 1.4 MB respectively and as ella says, really need to be optimized. Given that a very good number of people are still on dial-up for slow DSL (256k) my recommendation is that you try to keep your image files sizes under 50k.

That said, I see the images just fine in Firefox and also in Safari.

That image is 512px wide, which is too wide for your theme. Rather than resize it as FF does or break your theme by forcing it, IE chooses not to display it at all. Here’s more info:

How big can my images be?

Thank you thank you thank you!! I will try to take care of that!

You’re welcome. You can do it! Take it down to no more than 480px and while you’re optimizing, keep in mind 72 is all a monitor can display.
