Pictures and formating disappear

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi Guys,

I am really frustrated. I work through my ipad mini and your app is really not the best. Also I cannot use the desktop web version as it is too complex for using with iPad (which is fair enough :)

My issue is, that everytime I am just finished with my blog post. Having uploaded all images and everything looks great also in the preview. Even when I press update there is no error message. But when I look on the website not all pictures have actually been uploaded. instead the spot where there should be a picture has a small empty box.

When I say everytime i unfortunately exagerate, as sometimes it works and sometimes it does not, which makes it even more frustrating. I spend so much time neatly arranging everything and uploading, just to then find out that the images dissapeared.

The same happens by the way when I save a post and then want to reedit, the pictures sometime also will have dissapeared.

Also the text formating is not reliable. On the text version in the edit box all the breaks look clean, but on the web the text all too often looses all its breaks.

One last thing, why can’t I change the arrangement (center, left, right, “elongated”) on the app, I can do all of that on the webpage.

I am grateful for as much help as you can offer. Especially on the picture issue, because that is the most frustrating one.

    Best

    Hi Felix,

Sorry for the frustrations here. The mobile app is undergoing a lot of development, but you’re right there are some things just not where we want them yet.

I will be happy to report all these issues to the community working on the iOS app though.

My issue is, that everytime I am just finished with my blog post. Having uploaded all images and everything looks great also in the preview. Even when I press update there is no error message. But when I look on the website not all pictures have actually been uploaded. instead the spot where there should be a picture has a small empty box.

I just took a look at http://the-couchpotato.com/ and don’t see any empty boxes so far. Could you send me a link to the post where this occurred? When this happened did you check your media library to see if the images appeared fully uploaded there?

If the box for the image is there, it sounds like the post correctly contains the image, but when you viewed the webpage in your browser, the images weren’t loading. Knowing if the images appeared correct in your media library will help to test that out.

The same happens by the way when I save a post and then want to reedit, the pictures sometime also will have dissapeared.

So in this case, you’re saying that a post with images got published fine, later you view it in the editor and in the editor the images are gone?

One last thing, why can’t I change the arrangement (center, left, right, “elongated”) on the app, I can do all of that on the webpage.

Alignment can be adjusted by tapping the image to edit it:

By the way, there’s a forum specific to the iOS app here:

    https://ios.forums.wordpress.org/

We have staff members working there as a well as a great community of folks that can normally get you answers faster or test out issues more thoroughly than our general support queue at WordPress.com.

    Dear Alex,

thank you very much for your help. I did not respond earlier as I wanted to try to repeat the error with a new post. However, while doing so I had an idea to try something different. I think I found the reason for the error.

Basically I am using evernote to write my texts and then paste them into wordpress. Then I add the pictures. This time I first inserted the pictures and then inserted the text from evernote. This time the text disappeared, after some trying I made the text reappear. I think the issue I described above is caused from using evernote.

About the allignement this is a small thing, I can live without as I have to edit the whole blog one more time when I am back anyways.
The next time I will try the ios community.

Thank you very much for your support and hopefully this threat will help other users too. ;)

Be honest, you like my blog?

    Best

    Hi Felix,

Evernote can definitely cause some issues because it adds some unexpected HTML to attempt to keep formatting. Ironically, it usually ends up hurting the formating.

In general we recommend using the Paste as Plain Text when copy+pasting out of evernote into WordPress.com, but I’m not sure that option is available on the iOS application. It’s in Row 2 of the visual editor on a desktop browser:

I think your blog is looking great – a fun theme and a growing number of posts. :)
