pictures appear soft!

  I have tried using both versions of the uploader with the target image pre-sized and sharpened to 500pixels wide, the uploading seems to drop it down to 497 pixels and softens it quite a bit, is this normal and is there a way I can stop this happening?

  most of my pics were actually OK as they were cut and pasted from my old blog, they were still 500px but they stayed sharp. Its just the last ones from Portugal where I used the uploader, I will re-do those and follow your advice for new posts, cheers

  I wish I’d checked this out before as I would have preferred larger pictures, I don’t fancy re-importing 60 – 70 new larger pics though!
