Pictures are broken.

Pictures are replace by placeholders, not even opening when clicked.
Older photos seem unaffected but newer ones are all gone.

Going to the edit to fix, and find no links to them at all.

Usually, I add all pics, uploading to gallery first. The missing ones are the ones my friend have inserted, seems they may have been added as “cut and paste”. But why are they gone?

I read the threads from 3 months ago.
Hence, I have upgraded to laste version of Chrome and made sure cookies are allowed, but pictures are still gone.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Have you exhausted your free image storage space here > Dashboard > Media > Library?

Where are the images hosted? Did you upload them into your blog?
Or are they images you are hotlinking to?

if you delete an image file from your Media Library you are removing it from WordPress.COM servers and it cannot be displayed when a browser calls for it. In order to have the images display you have to upload them again. I think you will benefit from reading both of these posts of mine:

When trying to address the issue, I get an error message: A Maureen Carruthers is editing my page? A person never invited to do any editing. Is that “timethief”, or do I have a problem?

    Hi meknow,

Usually, I add all pics, uploading to gallery first. The missing ones are the ones my friend have inserted, seems they may have been added as “cut and paste”. But why are they gone?

In order for photos to display correctly, your website has to know where to “find” the photos. The ones you added are in your media gallery, so when you add them to the post, WordPress can format the post correctly to show the photo.

The way your friend added the photos left links, but when when your site goes to look for the photos, they aren’t there, so you get the broken links.

The most straight forward resolution to this problem is to add the missing photos to your media library and then add them to the post using your usual process.

    Is that possible?

    @ meknow
Sorry! That’s me. I’m a staff member at WordPress.com looking into your issue.

OK, so, she was using copy paste, that diddnt add the actual pixels but just the link to a temporary place, like, her pc?

So,when she watched them the first times, links worked, and now they are no longer there because the pictures are moved from the original download place?

I will make sure all new pics are afdded to the media library.

It is a little tricky though that they “look” added, as if it had been a normal document, when copied and pasted. It’s easy to get the impression it is sitting there the way it would have if it had been a document on your hard drive.

Is there any difference in how pics are handled if the page is a “post” or a “page” or do both require uploads to the library for permanency?

Oh, and thanks for the fast reply on the “intrusion”. feel free to remove your name from my post, if you don’t want it public! :)

So,when she watched them the first times, links worked, and now they are no longer there because the pictures are moved from the original download place?

This is a pretty accurate explanation of what happened. The links to the missing photos are still there, and seem to point to a website, but the photo no longer “lives” where the link points.

For example, here’s the link to one of the missing photos.

Either the photo was moved from this exact location, or the link got changed between when it was posted and now.

If the photo was still there, it would show up in the post, but when it breaks, it’s hard to figure out what happened.

If you add the photos to your media library and link them that way, it’s much easier to figure out what has happened if images go missing.

Is there any difference in how pics are handled if the page is a “post” or a “page” or do both require uploads to the library for permanency?

Adding photos to posts and pages works the same way. The safest bet is always to add the images to your photo library.

No worries. It must have been a shock to see someone else working in your site. :)

It also seems that a lot of the missing images in that post are from Facebook and if those images are not publicly available, they will also cause broken image links.

Other than uploading those images to your WPcom website, you can use Facebook embeds to share FB content http://en.support.wordpress.com/facebook-integration/facebook-embeds/ Again, whatever you embed must be shared as Public content and not just posted to a specific group, like “Friends”.
