Pictures do a disappearing act

  Some, most, of my pictures from older posts are disappearing. They have a little box in the center of where the picture should be. When you click on it it gives an error message: 404 – File not found. I have redownloaded some of the pictures, but this continues to be an issue. Any ideas why this is happening, and what can I do to prevent it?,

  You’ve probably removed the images from the media gallery. That will have the result you describe on posts. The media gallery holds the image; the post just kind of borrows it from the media gallery.

  You are amazing! That is exactly what I was doing. I was trying to clean up my gallery. Wish WordPress would make this a little more clear! Ah, well, problem solved. Thank you so much for the information. Pictures are being re-uploaded slowly but surely.
