In order to turn off commenting in the Carousel, you can either turn off commenting first on your entire site in Dashboard>Settings>Discussion by disabling commenting (you will then have to turn on/allow commenting in each post by enabling it in the Post’s Discussion module) or you can disable commenting on each image in your Gallery by editing the image in the Media Library.
You can turn off Likes and Reblogs through your Dashboard>Settings>Sharing settings. However, this may not make the related icons go away in the Carousel.
Since you’ve posted this in the CSS customization forum, perhaps another volunteer or staff member can help you with that.

The problem you’re running into is that the comment, likes, and reblog options are set for the images at the time the images are uploaded into a post.
To change those settings for the images you have already uploaded, you would need to update the settings for each image one by one like this:
- Go to the Media Library
- Click the list mode icon (in the left side of the bar just above the “Bulk Actions” menu)
- Click on one of the images to go to the “Edit Media” screen
- Uncheck all of the options at the bottom of the page for Allow comments, Allow trackbacks, Show likes, and Show sharing buttons
- Click the “Update” button
- Repeat for each image desired
That’s a lot of steps, but it is the cleanest route and the best choice if you want to be able to show comments, likes, or reblogs for some images and not others in the carousel in the future.
Another way to make it so comments, likes, and reblogs are off for media is to change the default settings so those things are off before you upload the images. The blog settings would need to be updated first, and then you would also need to make sure the per post settings have comments, likes, and reblogs turned off at the time the images are uploaded and the post is published. If you do that, the media will default to having comments, likes, and reblogs because the parent page has them off. Here’s how to change the default settings if you’d like to try it:
- Go to Settings > Discussion
- Uncheck the options for “Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks) ” and “Allow people to post comments on new articles “
- Click the “Save Changes” button at the bottom of the page
- Go to Settings > Sharing
- Find the option for “WordPress.com Likes are” and select “Turned on per post”
- Find the option for “WordPress.com Reblog Button” and seelct “Don’t show the Reblog button on posts”
- Click the “Save Changes” button at the bottom of the page
- Create and publish a new post with a gallery in it with images that have been uploaded for the first time (i.e. do not select images from the media library that have been uploaded in the past)
If you do those steps, posts and pages will be setup to not display comments, likes, or reblogs by default and the media uploaded to any new posts or pages you create will also have those same settings applied. If you wanted to allow comments, likes, or reblogs on the post after that, you can change the settings per post after the images have been uploaded and saved in a published post.
The last option would be to try to hide all of the options for comments, likes, and reblogs manually with CSS. There are a few problems with this route. First, the carousel screen is subject to change. If the HTML structure or any classes are modified by the developers in the future, you may need to manually adjust your CSS to compensate—that is just something you would need to watch out for if making a manual CSS change like this. The carousel styles are not likely to change, but they could so that’s why I am mentioning it. Another problem with this method is it’s kind of like using an anvil when you need a hammer. We’ll be turning off comments, likes, and reblogs for all media in the carousel and you will not be able to adjust those settings per image—it’s all or nothing.
This CSS will hide the container for comments, likes, reblogs, and the “view full size” link in the carousel for all media:
.jp-carousel-info { display: none; }You can add that to your Appearance > Customize > CSS editor to test it out.
