Pictures gone from old posts
-
Hi there
I’ve just noticed that my pictures have disappeared from older blog posts. After reading previous threads I thought it might be a Media Library error, but all my photos are still in the media library and I’ve plenty of free space left. Can you tell me why they aren’t showing on the blog?
Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Please provide URLs of the posts and/or pages that you do not see the embedded images displaying in.
What I see here https://teaandrucksacks.wordpress.com/ is a site that does not even have the theme set up yet https://wordpress.com/theme/karuna.

Hi,
Please provide an example or two, including the post URL and (if possible) an image URL.

What I see here https://kirstystravels.wordpress.com/ is another site that the theme has not been set up on yet https://kirstystravels.wordpress.com/

This is one post that is showing the pictures as little empty boxes now, no matter what browser or device I use. The pictures from
The post are still in my media library. -
I will type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for a Staff follow-up. I checked the following three image URLs from that post:
https://kirstystravels.files.wordpress.com/2016/08/img_5496.jpg
https://kirstystravels.files.wordpress.com/2016/08/img_5495.jpg
https://kirstystravels.files.wordpress.com/2016/08/img_5507-1.jpgEach URL produces a 404 — File Not Found error. That means that those image URLs do not correspond to image URLs in the media library. You may have the same images in the library, but for some reason the URLs don’t match.
@timethief,
Thanks for adding the “modlook” tag. Even though I’ve confirmed that the images from that post are not in the media library, I don’t know the reason for the sudden disappearance from the post, so calling for staff is still a good choice. -
You locate the images in your Media Library and click each one. When you do that there you will find the URLs.
-
It doesn’t seem to work. When I click it selects it and gives me the option to delete or edit. No URLs
-
Note this URL first https://redheadandrucksacks.wordpress.com/2016/08/14/climbing-the-sydney-harbour-bridge-finally/
The subdomain is https://redheadandrucksacks.wordpress.comNote the fact that the image URLs are all https://kirstystravels.files.wordpress.com/
Note the results from Google search for images when typing in the post URL there https://redheadandrucksacks.wordpress.com/2016/08/14/climbing-the-sydney-harbour-bridge-finally/
It appears this may be a hotlinking issue ie. it seems that the images were uploaded into one site and then hotlinked to from the other site so that is why they do not appear.
-
The bottom line is going to be that you have to upload the images into the same site that the post is published on. However, I will leave the modlook tag up in case I missed something as I have to log out now.

Damn. What a silly error, WordPress should warn users of this happening. All I remember doing is changing the immediate URL of the blog?
It will take me forever to trawl back through and re-upload. It’s disappointing as I was counting on having this blog to look back on.
Thanks both for your responses though.

You could use the Google link I posted to capture the images and then upload them into the correct site. Click on each image in the Google result and then click view image so you get the correct size before you capture it.

Didn’t you say that the images are in the https://redheadandrucksacks.wordpress.com media library. If so, then you’ll just have to replace the missing images with the corresponding images from the media library. Still a lot of work, yes, but no re-uploading.
@timethief,
Nice work. I hadn’t noticed the different subdomain in the image URLs until I came back and looked at it again a few minutes ago. -
By the way, if the images previously displayed on the site https://redheadandrucksacks.wordpress.com are in the media library of https://kirstystravels.wordpress.com/, then you may display them on the former site if the two sites are in the same account. If they are not in the same account, then you could transfer the latter into the same account as the former.
This should, I think, result in the images being displayed again immediately on https://redheadandrucksacks.wordpress.com. You could then replace them at your leisure with images from the correct media library.
