Pictures in new themes don't show

I noticed that in some themes that feature photos prominently, the photos that were uploaded in articles don’t get featured.
I am not talking about themes for photoblogs, I am talking about themes like Expound. http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2013/08/22/organization-expound/
So what should I do to make the pictures visible or to feature them in the front page?

To make the most of Expound, we highly recommend adding a Featured Image to your posts. To do this, open the editor of the post or page, and locate the Featured Image module in the bottom right corner under Page Attributes. Click “Choose a Featured Image.” You will see an uploading screen identical to that used when inserting an image into a blog post. Follow the on-screen prompts to choose the image from your computer and upload it or choose from one of the images already in your Media Library.
As for choosing the primary post and the four featured posts, you tag 5 posts with something, for example “featured.”
Setting Featured and Primary Posts
Navigate to Settings → Reading.
Scroll down to the section labeled “Featured Content.”
Enter the name of a tag.
Click the blue “Save Changes” button at the bottom.Your first five posts using your newly created tag will show up as your primary featured post and the remaining four will display as columns as shown in the demo.

Just changed it now. But I was on Freshy for like the longest time. LOL
I am going to try your instruction the soonest. I am at work at the moment. But thank you tess. :)
The problem with choosing a feature image is that if I have written a gazillion post already (like with my old personal blog, which goes back to 2006) I had to do your instructions to all of the posts. But yeah, for my new blog, it’s going to be an easy task.

Just changed it now. But I was on Freshy for like the longest time. LOL
The thing is, my blog was always on Freshy. But then I saw the new theme. So i tried it. But then the pics didn’t appear. So I went back to Freshy. I actually complained at the comment section of the wordpress article featuring EXPOUND, and the admin linked me here. :)
