Pictures move after being inserted into text

  • Unknown's avatar

    I write my posts in Open Office, then use the WordPress ‘paste as plain text’ button to insert the post. Problems arise when I then want to insert a number of pictures in specific places within the text. When I initially insert them they look fine, but then when I preview the post they’ve all moved around. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Keep in mind that the visual editor is generic: that means it won’t display the same width as your theme, nor will it add the theme’s CSS for such things as spacing, borders, or frames. If you arrange pictures as you want them in the visual editor, they will certainly look different when viewed on your blog.

    Also, do you understand the different types of alignment you can assign to images?

    Many thanks 1tess

    I’ll read up the info on the different types of alignment I can use for images – which I hadn’t discovered.

    The other thing you might look into is an offline editor. I’ve not used one, but it may be possible to set up so it looks the way your published page will look. I’m not sure of this but perhaps another volunteer would know?

    I’ve now checked the on-line editor for Linux users – BloGTK 2.0, but unfortunately it doesn’t seem to handle pictures yet. Thanks anyway. I’ll try your first suggestion – using alignment options with images.

    @Jude,
    Yes, that is good to know.

    I’ve helped a few folks set up blogs and one of the things that is not obvious to people who are used to formatting for print is that sites online are so very different. If one sets up formatting in Illustrator or Word or Open Office to print, your formatting is (mostly) preserved. Online, there are different variables which depend on how readers view your site. And you are not always in your control.
    Feel free to start new threads here if you have specific image formatting questions! Or post again here after you digest the alignment options document.

    I’ve looked at the alignment doc and I’ll definitely try it out when I do my next post. I only get problems when I want to insert images on the left and on the right and then maybe below in the centre.

    Thanks again for your time

    If you want such an arrangement you could learn some html table code. A sure way to align pictures but a short learning curve…

    Or you could try just inserting the two photos, both aligned either right or left. Then in the advanced visual editor for images, add padding between the two pics (add padding to the right for the one on the left, and padding to the left one on the right——or padding as appropriate to only one of the images). Sounds complicated but once you do it, you’ll see it makes sense. Follow that code with this in the html editor:
    <br style=”clear:both;” />
    Then you can place a centered photo below the other two.

    note: you probably won’t need the clear both code.
    Sorry, I was in the middle of doing something similar where I did need it—no concern for you!…

    Funny you should mention html – that’s exactly what my husband told me I needed to learn! I shall look into it, and in the meantime I’ll try out your suggestion using the advanced visual editor for images.
    Many many thanks!
