Pictures not displaying in edit mode

I use word press to publish a monthly gallery of pictures for family and friends. Since I upload images from a bunch of places, I need to organize the pictures and caption them. This has never been a problem. But this month I can see the images in preview mode, but when I click into edit mode (where I can move the images and caption them) all I see are the file names. It happens in Firefox and Chrome. I’m using a Mac (Yosemite 10.5). Please help!

Can you check if you’re using Visual Editor and not the HTML one? You can switch between them from the tabs at the upper-right corner of the post editing area. You can read more about editors here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/

Yep, visual editor tab selected and it looks like the visual in every regard but in that edit window for the images.

Can you give me the post’s link you’re having trouble with? Make sure you mark your site public so I can take a look. Also, to edit a gallery in the visual editor click on the blue rectangle with camera & snapshot shortcode image so you see two icons in the upper left. One is the red delete symbol, and the other is a mini version of the camera & snapshot as an icon. Click that one. Then you can edit which pictures are included in your gallery: add (upload or find from your media library) or delete as you like. If for some reason, you do not see that option, try clearing your browser’s cache/switching browsers and let us know :)

Hi! Thanks for your help. I don’t have any of the options you’re mentioning. In the visual editor I have regular ribbon menus, one icon of which leads to “Insert content” so I can insert media or a contact form. I click “Media” and go to my “Media library”. I upload the photos I want to there and select the ones to insert. Once I do that, I go to a separate window with “Preview” and “Edit” tabs. In edit, I can move the pictures around and caption them – this is where I cannot see the images. If I go to either “Preview” of the images or click “Update” and see the whole post, I can see the pictures. I cannot find a blue rectangle, red delete symbol, or camera. Again, using Firefox, but it looks the same on Chrome.

All of a sudden (maybe making it public???), I can see the pictures in the editor! Maybe solved? I’ll keep you posted :)
