Pictures Not Showing Up in the Reader
-
According to this comment by staff, https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/first-picture-in-the-new-reader?replies=32#post-2434874, the minimum size is 350 pixels.
I’ve recently posted two blog posts with pictures sized, 640 X 360 and 640 X 408, and neither of these pictures showed up in the Reader.
Have the size requirements changed? If so, what are they?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Thanks, rootjosh.
These are the two posts with pictures not showing up in the Reader:
Chris Hedges: Open-pit Uranium Mining Spreading Nuclear Contaminants in Sacrifice Zones

So, the two things that are similar in those posts are that they have the 640 wide embed. While this post has a 750 wide embed and the image shows up:
…as we can see in this tag search:
https://wordpress.com/tag/chris-hedges
SO…I would say that you need to keep those embeds above 750 wide.

Thanks for trying to help again, rootjosh.
However, that doesn’t make any sense. My blog has over 400 posts with photos with a width of 640 and only two of them didn’t show up in the Reader.
It’s the minimum size that I’m wondering if WP changed. Staff said 350 and over but both of these photos were 360 and 408 for the minimum size.
Is there any documentation yet for the minimum size requirements for photos/pictures showing up in the Reader?

Do you have an example of a recent post with a under-640 image that DID appear in the reader?
-
Just a quick note to say you are running an old retired theme that no longer supports all wordpress.COM features. https://coralinedemo.wordpress.com/images/
-
timethief, thanks so much for letting me know that my “new” theme from just over a year ago is now retired.
-
Coraline was actually introduced in 2010:
It was retired in 2015 and replaced with Colinear:
-
Rootjosh, yes, this one has a photo with these dimensions: width=”500″ height=”350″ and it shows up in the Reader.
What Will Many Bernie Sanders Voters Do After July? by Ralph Nader
Just curious, does our WP theme have anything to do with whether pictures show up in the Reader?
-
I changed themes from another one that was retired to Coraline in Dec. 2014, just over a year ago.
I’ll have to change themes again but not right now as I’m too busy with blog postings.
-
So, it appears there is a bug here.
We’re looking into it.
And no, the theme shouldn’t have anything to do with this particular issue. But Timethief is correct to note that using a retired theme may result in functionality issues going forward.
-
Thanks for looking further into this, rootjosh.
So for the most part, we should choose pics that are 350 px or larger, yes?
-
Okay, bug fixed. You can see the difference here:
https://wordpress.com/tag/chris-hedges
…where the open pit uranium post previously didn’t have an image.
And yes, 350 wide is the minimum.
