On many occasions I have sent my posts to a certain facebook page with no problem. On the last two occasions, however, I find that the picture I have included in the post is not the one that shows up on the facebook page. Instead, it is a picture of one of my book covers in the sidebar.

Not every theme has featured images; only some do. Your theme does have them https://wordpress.com/themes/nucleare/
We have no control over the images that Twitter, Facebook or any other social networks chooses to display or when they choose to flush their image caches. We really only send them the URL of the post, and they hunt through that for the excerpt and images to include.

Thank you, timethief. I visited all the sites you suggested above and found something on Facebook debugger relating to picture sizes that I thought might be relevant to my problem. So I reduced all my cover images in the sidebar and made sure the 2 pictures on my blog were a minimum of 200 x 200 as required by Facebook. Then I tried to send it to the Facebook page where I’ve sent my posts in the past. My cover picture didn’t show this time. Neither did either of the two pictures in my post. Instead it was the picture at the top of my blog – the header, I think you call it. I hate to bug you, but this is frustrating.

Hi @susanappleyardwriter, if you’ll send links to the specific posts that are giving you trouble, we’ll check them for you to see if we can make any suggestions.
Generally, if your featured image is big enough, Facebook will use that.

Neither of these has a featured image set. Can you go ahead and edit both of those to add a featured image? Make sure it’s large enough, too.
Then head over to https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/sharing/ , enter the post URL and click Debug. Then click “Scrape Again”.
If that does not do the trick, please leave the featured images in place for now, and update us here. Thanks!
