Pingback before or only after publishing?

    L.S.

As I understand, WP uses Ping-o-Matic as a pinging service and sends out a ping with every post I publish to other pinging services. I also understand ‘excessive’ pinging, such as pinging with every edit and/or update of a blogpost, could possibly get me booked as spammer or banned from said pinging services. I know I can disable trackback/pingback for each post individually, not that I would want to do that though, i would very much like to drive traffic.
But just to be clear, the pinging ONLY happens with PUBLISHED posts right? And only with every edit/update of them AFTER publishing? Not with posts I am still working on and editing and updating the hell out of them ;-)? Silly question perhaps but still….

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
