Pingback showing as Anonymous comment
-
In my most recent post I made a reference to an earlier posted article. Normally a pingback appears in the comments of the post I refer to.
Now it is appearing as an Anonymous comment. There is no text in the comment itself but the url of “Anonymous” is the earlier post.
Weird situation!

Me too. I know the site where it came from because I’ve been pinged from that site before. But today said Anonymous.

Lorelle has a workaround for this that you might want to read:
You might want to have a read and then report it through feedback from your dashboards.

And if you happen to find out it’s a splogger or otherwise junk content on the internet simply looking for ad clicks, delete the pingback from your comments to prevent giving them more traffic and Google ranking.

“delete the pingback from your comments to prevent giving them more traffic and Google ranking.”
I have deleted a pingback from three supposedly blogs who use wordpress. There is one that I cannot delete from the comment listing. I have added them as spam AND deleted the comment but for the life in me I cannot find a way to get rid of the comment which still leads back to their site/blog. When I click on the name in the blog it takes me to a hosting site.
The URL is: http://tvinput.info/?p=1156 This seems to be a wordpress.org blog. Now, am I being paranoid about this? If so sorry for taking up your time.

If you add more comments to your own blog then it will go off your Recent Comment list. If you’ve deleted the comment itself, I don’t know why it would still be showing up unless your browser is looking at a cached version of the page. Delete cookies and browser cache (temporary internet files) and do a forced reload of that page to make sure it’s gone. Sometimes that clears it up.
I only wish that when we linked to other of our own posts that Technorati would pick those up as links to our blog. But that would be “gaming the system” wouldn’t it?

I have Firefox set up so it kills cookies etc when I close the browser, I did that a few times but nothing. When I signed back on today the comment was gone. I added the commenter to the block IP list, all three comments came from the same IP. I deleted the whole post and re-did it which gave a 404 on the original URL, obviously – but now the comment has gone so I hope that this is now resolved.
I have set my blog to people have to add e-mail adress etc to comment, I didn’t want to do that and I don’t know if it will stop the person pinging back – we will have to see.
But thanks for the help! (Y)
