Did you reference or link to another post of your own? A pingback is just a notification that somewhere out there on a blog (even your own) there is a post that links to your entry where you recieved the pingback (also known as a trackback).

bbc world TV have a horizon program – that’s more than likely an old one – called facehooded – its being shown over the week end so you could still catch it
interesting take on face book.
an overpriced company – a bubble ready to burst and that when the members get to know about thier personal details being accessible to the general public and that it is an ad based site it’s possible that members will move to the new social network round the corner!
also spoke of fraudsters – nicking peoples identities on it -
You may not want someone to link to your blog post. Or at the very least know who and in what context they are doing so. The pingback is an alert that this has happened.
After all, if they link to you and insult you for your opinion on something, you probably want to know about it. -
But flamewars are GREAT for hits.
I generally find that the sad majority of pingbacks are spam sites. Always check them out and kill the pingback (list it as Spam) if it is in fact a spam site.

I got a pingback when I referred to a previous post, also. It appeared as a comment on the post and looked like I spammed myself. I deleted it.

You can link to your own previous post and avoid the pingback by using a relative URI and not an absolute URI.

Thanks for the info. I received two of these recently and wasn’t sure what to do with them.
