Pingbacks
-
Can you please explain to me in simple English how to enable ‘pingbacks’. On the Weekly Photo Challenge today (In the background) WordPress suggested we add a pingback to our posts. But I can not find any clear instruction on how to do this. Anything I read on the website is either gobeldygook, or assumes I have far more knowledge of the topic than I actually do. Please assume I am from outer space and newly arrived with your answer. Please oh please do not send me a link!
Thanks in advance for help.

Hi there!
Here’s a great support document that explains pingbacks in detail:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/comments/pingbacks/To create a pingback, just link to another WordPress blog post. If that post has pingbacks enabled, the blog owner will see a pingback appear in their comments section that they can approve.
I’m not familiar with the Weekly Photo Challenge, but I’m assuming they want you to link to their post in your photo submission post on your own blog. Then, your post will show up as a pingback on the Weekly Photo Challenge post.
I hope that clarifies things! Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks C, but that link is my problem. I do no see anywhere on it how you enable a pingback. It tells you everything else about the subject matter but nothing about how to set it up.
I do not understand your comment – just link to another WordPress blog post. How do you actually “link to another wordpress blog post”??? This is the crux of my problem and nowhere on the website can I see how how to do it, and nobody is explaining it in simple English.
Please forgive my obvious stupidity!

If you still need it, here’s a handy reference that will help you add links to your posts:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/You would just need the URL of the Weekly Photo Challenge post and you can add that link by following the instructions I linked to above.
I hope that helps! Let me know if it still doesn’t make sense.
