Pingbacks
-
Since yesterday, Feb 16, pingbacks don’t come through. I like to link to prevoius blogposts, but now it doesn’t happen. What’s wrong. I haven’t changed my settings.
WP.com: Yes

Hey there @timothyjunes, it looks like you got in touch with support by chat shortly after posting here & they’re working with you by email.
For what it’s worth, I did a quick pingback test on my site and they do seem okay here, but I wasn’t using a scheduled post & I’m not sure yet whether that could have affected the pingback status.
I’m wondering too: is there any chance the posts were ever published before, no matter how briefly?
-
Having the same problem. It’s been two days and the pingbacks to previously posted blog posts are not showing up.

[Also having trouble posting this comment. This is my second try.]

Can confirm that pingbacks are not working.
This post linked to my post:

@timothyjunes @bookstooge @dandelionsalad – this is a bug we’re aware of at the moment. Our development team is investigating the issue and hopefully, they’ll have that fixed soon. In the meantime, pingbacks won’t be recorded.

Thank you @staff-heroponriki and @supernovia !
Indeed, external pingbacks work, internal not. Thank you for following this up! -
@supernovia the posts were scheduled but not publicized (not even a secon).
It *did* happen though when I rescheduled. I usually schedule posts to be public at 2.01 AM CET. But I made a mistake and put it on PM. Now, at 6AM I saw this and published immediately, but just making the PM into AM. Instead of 6AM. Did that make it happen? -
Since any issues you have with social sharing may be different from this issue with pingbacks, could you start a new topic here?
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1You can add a “modlook” tag if you’d like to get staff attention.
That way the people who have been working on this topic won’t get unwanted notifications as we troubleshoot your other issue, and we can keep this thread focused on pingbacks. Thanks!

Thank you – any update on when this problem might be fixed? My last two posts have had pingback problems.
-
We don’t have a timeline or any updates about the pingbacks at the moment; but when we do have an update we’ll be able to let you know.

Hey there,
Of course, we always try our best to offer insights where we can :), but bare in mind, there are some things we can’t divulge if there’s any security/privacy concerns.
-
That is understandable.
BUT.
over the last year, maybe 2, there have been quite a few errors like this occurring on wordpress.com (basic things like not being able to copy/paste in the title block springs immediately to mind) and I was hoping wp would provide some accountability for its actions. It does not inspire even one iota of confidence to see these things happen when testing of updates “should” have taken care of these issues before they even became public. I am looking for some assurances that the quality will not continue to degrade. and holding people accountable is how that is done.

Hi @bookstooge
basic things like not being able to copy/paste in the title block springs immediately to mind
We are still in the process from switching from our previous “classic” editing tools to a rich set of WYSIWYG tools that allow a high level of site customization without the need to know HTML or other coding skills. It’s a pretty complicated transition to make and there will sometimes be issues like that as we continue to evolve/refine our tools. If you see an issue like that you can report it to us and we’re happy to look into it.
It does not inspire even one iota of confidence to see these things happen when testing of updates “should” have taken care of these issues before they even became public.
While we do rigorous testing before releasing changes, WordPress is a tool many people use in different ways to create their own workflows. It’s not possible for us to test every iteration and combination of issues so if you spot something that is not working correctly we’re glad to investigate. Thanks!

Hi again
So when a scheduled post came online this morning, 28 Feb, 2.01 AM CET, I got pingbacks. I started updating posts I published since the pingback stoppage, and that worked for a while to still have the lost pingbacks
But now it doesn’t anymore. Am I doing too much at once? -
Thanks @timothyjunes for posting – I just reposted the 4 posts effected by this issue – and the internal pingbacks have now worked!!!! May they long continue to do so :-)
