Pingbacks from images
-
As part of my new commitment (?) to the Daily Prompt, I added a pingback to my post. However, I added the pingback as a link in an image. It seems that the pingback did not work and I am wondering if pingbacks only work if embedded in the text of the post. Any ideas?

Hi there,
Can you please give a link to the post on your blog where you added the Daily Prompt link so I can have a look?

Hi. The link is: https://tonyhuby.wordpress.com/2018/04/04/churn/ and the DP link was in the Sequencing Publishing graphic. I have since added the DP to words ‘churns’ which seemed to work. Thanks in advance.

Thanks.
I did some digging and some testing, and it turns out pingbacks don’t work if you hyperlink an image. The link has to be inline in the post text, but it will work if you link it to anchor text like you did in that post.

Thanks for the replies and answer. I’ll remember that one. Is that something that could change? It could be useful if that restriction could be added to the “Trackbacks and Pingbacks” information page, which I found very helpful.
Kind regards

This is part of the core wordpress software developed over at make.wordpress.org, so any change in this would have to come from that end.
I can see about adding a note to the support page, though.
