Pingbacks from linking to own post. How to stop?

  Pingback comments from my own blog are unnecessary, how can I turn them off? In my WordPress options in Options > Discussion I’ve unchecked “Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks)” but I am still getting pingbacks from my own links. I’d rather turn them off even if it means that outside blogs pingbacks aren’t shown.

  Use relative rather than absolute URLs i.e. http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/04/23/can-i-stop-self-pings/
