  Is there any way for these to get automatically approved? It’s kind of silly that I have to manually approve pingbacks from my own posts.

  No there isn’t but you can stops self pings if you wish. http://en.support.wordpress.com/pingbacks/ I simply delete the ones I don’t wish to post.
