I’ve been a long time wordpress.com user. I’ve noticed in the last 6 weeks that pingbacks are not working. Any help?

Hey there,
Are you a provider or recipient of a pingback? Are you having trouble linking to someone else’s site or are you getting reports from other users who aren’t getting approval for a pingback from your site? I checked your site and you are set to approve pingbacks. Are you not getting approved?
For more information regarding pingbacks, please visit our support page:
Let me know, thanks!

Hi, I’m the recipient of pingbacks. Yes, I’ve set up my WordPress blog to receive pingbacks.
However, over the last several weeks, I heard of links to certain posts that are not showing up as pingbacks.
For instance, this blog post http://scottkleinman.net/blog/2016/03/15/digital-humanities-projects-with-small-and-unusual-data/
mentions and links to my blog post https://triproftri.wordpress.com/2016/02/05/uc-irvine-talk/
However, no pingback.
Any thoughts?

Hey there,
It very well could be a setting on the other user’s blogs. You have the option to disable pingback notifications to other blogs for new articles. So, you should receive notifications for WordPress users who has pingback notifications enabled under their account, but the ones you don’t receive may be because of the user disabling that feature.
Just to make sure that what I am describing is the issue, I sent a pingback notification to your blog (I have pingbacks enabled on my end). Let me know if you received it.
Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

Ok. I got your pingback. Looks like this is for other blogs, not mine. Thank you for solving the issue!

I seem to be having the same problems, receiving and sending pingbacks/trackbacks. It started around six weeks ago too. I thought initially it was connected to changing themes (I’m currently using Rosalie), but after checking, it predates that change.
I’ve made sure posts and settings are checked to allow pingback/trackbacks, and have cleared cache and cookies, and it hasn’t helped. (My links do show up when linking with Daily Post photo prompts, but don’t when linking to a WordPress(dot)org site – I know that shouldn’t be a .COM issue.)
I’m using Safari 9.1 on a MacBook Air.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi there @Tara,
Your issue must be similar to @triproftri – you are set to send and receive pingback/trackbacks but the user who is linking to your blog has that feature disabled. That is why you are not receiving any notification when they link to your blog.
Do you have the site that is linking to your blog that you did not receive notification for?
Let me know, thanks!

Thanks @darnelidibbles… I thought that may be the case too.
On my post on Apr. 13:
there are three links from WP.com sites that didn’t show up as ping backs:
https://lancemyblogcanbeatupyourblog.wordpress.com/2016/04/18/unconditional-love/
I’ve tried to let these bloggers know to check their settings, so hopefully it can be easily resolved.
Appreciate the help…

Okay, so they are all WordPress.com sites. Yeah, I would get in contact with the users and see if they have pingbacks enabled under their discussion settings.
If they do (or at least did when they made the post that links to your post), let me know and I will look further into the issue for you. Thanks!

I contacted my visitors who regularly send pingbacks about checking their settings. One, fiction trials, replied that her settings were correct. Her latest pingback worked, as did two from WP.org sites. One other WP.com site, added a link back as an edit (the original post did not include a pingback – would that matter?) and it never showed in my comments.

I also received a ping from a WP.com site regarding a post I made for the weekly WordPress Photo Challenge.
mine: https://thinspiralnotebook.com/2016/04/23/warhol-57/
pingback: https://chrisbreebaart.wordpress.com/2016/04/24/abstract-epitaph/It’s still sort of hit and miss. Some pingbacks show up, some don’t.

Hey there,
That might be the issue. I tried adding a link after the initial publish and the pingback didn’t work. However, I could’ve swore it should. I’ll do some more testing and check internally and let you know.
Thanks!

https://paulaharmondownes.wordpress.com/2016/04/25/in-shifting-sands/Ha! Click on their link on the bottom that is supposed to lead to your post. They accidentally linked to their own post, not yours. That is why you did not get a ping.
Hopefully that solves the problem =).
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,

I should have checked that first thing… doh.
There is still a problem with some of the ping and trackbacks not showing, but I haven’t heard back from those visitors. I appreciate you checking this out though.

staff-doublebassd I’m sorry to keep sounding like a broken record, but I’m still having an issue with pings. Looking at the sites in question, it may be a Blogspot issue.
On this post of mine: https://thinspiralnotebook.com/2016/04/27/100-word-challenge-job/
Pings that worked

http://ourwriteside.com/tdr30/ (My ping to this site does not show in their comments, however)Pings that did not work

http://doesanyonecarewhatiwrite.blogspot.com/2016/04/100-word-challenge-lets-get-crazy.html (this one linked to the site, not the specific post, so that may the problem with this one.)If that is the case, that it’s a Blogspot problem, is there anything you can suggest I do? (And, I did check to make sure all their links were directing to my post.)
Thanks again for all your trouble.

staff-doublebassd, Ah… I’ve been on WP for eight years and never realized that. Learn something new every day. It also says how few pingbacks I get.
:DThanks for all your help, very much appreciated.
