Pinging
-
Can WordPress be configured to ping other pinging services (such as autopinger) as opposed to ping-o-matic?
Why is ping-o-matic used anyway?

You’ll have to address those questions directly to staff. They’re hanging out in the forums more, but you’re likely to get a quicker answer by sending a support notice from your dashboard.

You can ping anything you want from the free WYSIWYG Rich text blog editor, Windows Live Writer. And it’s easy. Windows Live Writer sends a so called XML-RPC ping signal to servers like ping-o-matic or any other service that you want to ping.
Download Windows Live Writer here – remember to remove all the check marks except for the one that you want: http://get.live.com/WL/config_all
When installed: Open Windows Live Writer -> Select Tools -> Preferences -> Ping Servers. Type the ping services that you would want to ping about your new blog posts.
