Pinging in Technorati
-
I was just at Technorati and my blog, glassart.wordpress.com, hadn’t been “pinged” for 14 days. I add to my blog almost every day and I had read that I don’t need to manually ping here at wordpress.com, so I wasn’t worried about it.
Can anyone help me with what is going on?
Thanks,

WordPress pings Technorati. Doesn’t mean technorati always works correctly though. Do a search for technorati and ping and you’ll see many threads on the subject along with many folk’s annoyances with Technorati.

Sometime Technorati doesn’t get pinged from WP. I observed it doesn’t happen instantly in an automatic fashion. The best way for you is to copy and paste technorati automatic ping code into your blog. Or You can go to Technorati, Manually ping your blog there. Or You have Automatic Pingers available in Web if you search google. ping-O-matic is one such good site. You can ping many at one shot. Hope this helps your issue

How do I paste technorati automatic ping code into my blog? I was at Technorati and it explained how to do this for WordPress.com, but the functions it told me to access are no longer where Technorati said they were, probably old info.

You are right. I wonder many other sites like widgetbox too show the old WP options. I think WP should talk to their associates and get these changed. Lets wait for someone to reply on how to add automatic technorati ping.

hro is incorrect. We do not have a method of pinging additonal services here. wp.com pings technorati automattically. If you take a few minutes and look through the other threads, you’ll note that technorati has issues.
Best bet would be to go over to Technorati and manually ping. Even then, Technorati may not update.
For reference, I have (and others here as well) asked Technorati to update their site as they only discuss regular wordpress, not the version we run here. Asked about a dozen times in the last year.

I have found that manually pinging Technorati on their site works, but others have reported that it still doesn’t work for them.
I also ping several services through Pingoat, just in case Pingomatic, the service WordPress uses, is having technical difficulty.

You choose the sites you want to ping (leaving Spanish sites off reduces the number of blog scrapers who steal your stuff) and bookmark the page they give you so that later you just open Favorites and click on it.

I too do the pingoat thing and manually ping Technorati as well. I also find I have to manually ping IceRocket, (as pingoat usually says “connection failed” with them) and that often takes several tries before they pick up a new post of mine, if they do at all.
-
Oh, because of the failures I’d thought Icerocket was long dead. Are they substantial enough to make it worth our while doing a third auxiliary ping for every post?
-
Hard to say. I don’t know how many people use Icerocket. But I’d guess it’s not many, so it’s probably not actually worth the bother of going there to ping them. I just fiddle around with it sometimes for no sane reason. :-/
