  How do I add a number of pinging sites that will enable them receive my content any time I update my blog content

  Yes, how de ping work?

  Pingomatic is built into wordpress.com blogs and will in turn ping Technorati and other sites for you. Unless you choose to uncheck the checkbox on the writ post page under “discussion”, pinging will be automatic. You publish and it happens.
