Pinning Comment

  • Unknown's avatar

Last year, writer0001 asked if it was possible to pin a comment (#3501669).

Staff member kokkieh (#3503266) said that this was not a programmed feature, but he would forward the request.

There may not be a programmed way, but there is a solution. What I do is simply edit the time of the comment.

Click on ‘Comments’ in the sidebar of the dashboard, scroll to the comment you want to pin, click ‘Edit’, find ‘Submitted On’ in the SAVE box on the right, click ‘Edit’ and change the time of submission.

Of course, you’ll need to click on the first comment to see when it posted. So, for example, if you see that the first comment posted at 7:00 am on Nov 11, then you would simply change the time of your desired comment to 6:59 am. Pay attention, as well, to the date. The comment that you want to pin may have posted days later so you’ll need to change the date, too.

Now that you’ve adjusted the time and/or date, you’ll see that your desired comment now appears at the top. This assumes, of course, that the comments appear in standard descending order and not last one first.

I couldn’t answer on the Forum because the topic was closed, but I did contact the poster directly. Maybe this solution can be archived for future inquiries.

  • Thanks for the idea, @topcat1953!

You might also consider adding a note to the comment saying it was posted at (the original time) in case that’s important for context.

And, to cross-link these two topics, here’s the older one:

    Cheers :)

  • Since the feature request system is on Github now, I’ve moved the original request here:
    https://github.com/Automattic/wp-calypso/issues/57966

And, though you shared a workaround, I’m adding your thread there as a request as well. Cheers :)
