Pinterest is showing "WordPress.com" instead of blog title

    Hi all,

I’m having issues with Pinterest not picking up the blog post title from images in a blog post, and the title on the pin is automatically “WordPress.com”. Any ideas on how to fix this?

As a temporary “fix” I am currently uploading the pin directly to Pinterest and then embedding it, but it’s not ideal and I don’t want to have to go back through every post to change this.

I’ve asked WP for support on this but they haven’t been able to answer. I’ve noticed it happening to other people on WP.com as well so I think it’s a WP glitch.

    Any help would be appreciated!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Can you give a link to a post where this is happening?

The Pin It button that’s added to your posts if you have a Pinterest sharing button is coming directly from Pinterest – we’re using code they provide, which simply gets embedded on your site. So if that button isn’t working properly, it’s most likely a problem on Pinterest’s end. But we’re happy to take a look and make sure nothing is broken on our end.

Hi Kokkieh, sorry I’ve just seen your reply!

Here are a couple of examples of it just saving as “WordPress.com”:

Hoping you’re able to help, or perhaps I need to tag them differently, I’m not sure how to rectify it!

  • Chiming in with what I know on this, not a solution yet unfortunately. This data comes from the Open Graph tags that WordPress.com adds automatically. Your posts all have the right data, but Pinterest can’t see it.

It looks like WordPress.com might be blocking or limiting the bot Pinterest uses for Rich Pins? https://developers.pinterest.com/tools/url-debugger/

Thanks Darciemg – I wondered if that was the case! I’ve tried validating rich pins (I’m on free WP.com so can’t use the <head> tags but I’ve tried the body one) and it doesn’t seem to be working but I’m not sure if that would be the only solution or if this is an issue with WP? Really frustrating as I’m working on upping my Pinterest game and then this happens!

  • Thanks @darciemg — have you seen this before on other sites?

    @anorcadianabroad
would you be willing to share a few links to other sites that you’ve seen this issue with? Also, to confirm, this is happening with all links on this site, correct?

I tried duplicating all the same settings on a test site and wasn’t able to see this issue, but perhaps if we can see a few more sites having the same problem, we’ll spot the common denominator.

  • @supernovia I’m seeing that debugger not validating a handful of sites right now, but not all. I tested some custom domains and some without. I have seen hosts block/limit that tool, but I can’t recall if I’ve seen WordPress.com do it over the years. All public WordPress.com sites should validate automatically due to Jetpack OG tags!

The error that it’s throwing means that the tags are wrong or the site can’t be read, and we know the tags are right. In the past, Pinterest Business support has been able to say what specific error they’re getting for a domain.

  • Thank you for the information @darciemg. We’ll do some testing update you here.

@supernovia I’ve noticed it on a friend’s site too – an example of a pin is here:

Thanks so much for helping out with this, and thanks @darciemg for your help too.

@supernovia @fstat – it’s still doing this, do you know any more about what might fix it?
