pinterest meta tag not working

I searched the blog and the web to no avail. This may not be a wordpress.com problem but instead a Pinterest one. I am guessing you all are tired of hearing about Pinterst verification problems so please forgive me ahead of time! :)
But I have added the content part of the meta supplied by Pinterest yet the verification process never goes through. Have tried numerous times. Any help would be appreciated.

I finally found a solution somewhere in the forums. Instead of the entire meta tag, all you need to use is the string of characters between the quotation marks near the end of the tag. You don’t need the quotation marks. Good luck!

Did this work for you blessedx4girls? I work in media and know pretty well how this stuff works. Once you paste the whole thing into wordpress tools it should – and does on my end – strip it down to only those needed parts of the tag. Either way mine still won’t verify. At least Pinterest is now telling me it can’t find the meta tag. Argh! It can’t get any easier but the problem probably lies with Pinterest. If anyone finds another answer please share. :)

OH – by the way I did find out it had to be a top level domain per Pinterest rules… so I did it. Was going to do it anyway. Just made it happen sooner!

Yes, I got it to work and my account is verified. When it stripped down the meta tag, it only kept the beginning (maybe 8-10 characters) of it. I copied and pasted the entire tag and it finally worked. Good luck!

Lucky you! :) I tried the whole thing and variants of – variants shouldn’t work but it was worth a shot – and nothing. No help so far from Pinterest. Anyone else out there have any ideas? I am entering the meta tag into the Pinterest area of the tools section in my settings on wordpress. I am leaning to “it is a PInterst Problem” but …
I just want my posts to show up as I pin them to my account as “verified” for authenticity since I use my own photos mostly. The whole photo stealing thing on Pinterest right now is a hot topic and I don’t want mine used without permission or stolen. I have had that happen. :(

I’m still having the same problem 40yearwanderer. Pinterest continues to tell me it “can’t find the meta tag” even though I’m placing it in the correct place on wordpress.
Seems like it must be a problem on the Pinterest side.

Timethief, I am not sure what the links are for except to help those reading this who do not how to do it. While that is helpful for them it does nothing for my verification problem. I have followed all the directions to the letter and still no verification goes through. I still think it is on Pinterests end though. I have emailed them to no avail.

However, I was hoping by putting this on here that someone might have found an actual fix to this issue that would solve my issue which is apparently wide spread from what I read elsewhere. Darn. Oh well. I don’t NEED verified to pin my own stuff thankfully!

Thank you! I have a hunch like I said it is a Pinterest thing because I am copying and pasting the meta – just like I do in my media work – and it truncates in the tool on my wordpress blog but then Pinterest just tells me “can’t be found”. I do not have CSS but don’t believe that should make this “not found”.

What you provided in the Tools section of your blog’s Dashboard is not a verification key. You’ll see an example of what we need right below the text field.

I actually did provide that same – exactly like the example you mention. Every time I hit save it truncates to what you see. How do I stop that?

This is what I pasted and it gets truncated:

“pinterest-2a394.html” is not the correct content of the meta tag.
Please note the example provided on that page:
<meta name='p:domain_verify' content='f100679e6048d45e4a0b0b92dce1efce'>Per that example, “f100679e6048d45e4a0b0b92dce1efce” is what should have been pasted in.
Please note, that is only an example, not your meta tag.
You’ll need to use Pinterest’s meta tag verification method, not their html file method.
