Pinterest New File Verifications

Pinterest is requiring that I verify my homepage. It is saying that I need to upload a file from Pinterest to my server here. The instructions are:
1. Download the HTML verification file (pinterest-e5b4d.html).
2. Upload this file to your web server (www.southernveganfood.com).
3. Click here to complete the process.
I don’t see anywhere on my end where I do this.The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m sorry but this isn’t a WordPress.com issue per say. This is a multi-user blogging platform. As our blogs are not free standing we cannot access metadata and add anything to it or edit it. For that kind of verification access you will need to hire a web hosted and set up your own independent WordPress.org install.

Que? I think I understand what you are understanding but barely. My blog is not an e-commerce site. I am just writing a cookbook. My Pinterest page is asking for “verification” and wants me to upload a file to my server. To do that, you are saying that I have to hire a web host? I have the premium upgrade here already. Is that the same?

That’s correct. We cannot access metadata on this mulituser blogging platform. That can only be done on w WordPress.org install.
I have the premium upgrade here already. Is that the same?
That’s irrelevant as there is no upgrade one can purchase that provides access to metadata on a free hosted WordPress.com blog.

Stupid question but what is metadata? And this wordpress blog cost me $’s because I purchased from WordPress the Pro Bundle. Is that not the same?

Metadata is what’s in the Header section of theme templates. Our free hosted WordPress.com blogs are not free standing blogs. All blogs wearing the same theme are sharing the same underlying template. Only Staff can access it and edit as every edit they make affects all blogs wearing the same theme.
I purchased from WordPress the Pro Bundle. Is that not the same?

If you’ve registered your domain through WordPress.com and now want it to point to a blog or website hosted elsewhere then you can do this by updating the nameservers.

Sorry to jump in on this, but I had some similar questions. Basically, a current WP.com user (using a pre-made theme, regardless of domain ownership/Premium account type) would have to move their existing blog to a WP.org site with a “custom” theme in order to verify the blog/website on Pinterest, correct?
Just trying to nail this down, too because I’m having similar issues on Pinterest when trying to verify my “website” AKA my WP.com blog.

Let me see if I understand this correctly:
1) Pinterest won’t show my website URL unless I verify it.
2) I can’t verify my WordPress site without doing the .org install.It’s frustrating because I’m not a business, I’m a person who has a website. If anyone has found a way to convince Pinterest they’re a person even though they have a website, can tell me how I did it? Or if I’m misunderstanding this, please let me know.

If all you want to have is a “people” Pinterest account ie. you don’t intend to register as a business and profit from pinning other people’s content then you can simply do what follows and forget the verification for business process.
You can use any widget that has pure HTML but you cannot use any widgets that contain restricted codes like iframes or JavaScript widgets. In the case of Pinterest, you cannot use the Pin-it Javascript code on a WordPress.com blog. http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/
But you can put the code for the Pinterest follow button in a text widget.
1. Go to this site, choose which one of the red Follow Me images you want, and copy the code for it. http://pinterest.com/about/goodies/2. Then, go to your widgets > Appearance > Widgets and select a text widget.http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/text-widget/
3. Paste the Pinterest follow button code into the text widget, “save” the widget, “close” the widget and place it where you want it to display in your sidebar.
