Pinterest question

I had a question about when a reader presses the Pinterest icon that shows after my post to pin my post to their Pinterest board….I did it on my own blog and my photos came up and I chose one and then when it went to the next screen the description area was empty, obviously I guess because I have not inputted anything somewhere. How can I do that so it is there for the reader? Thanks so much for your help.

Hi Mary Ann, I’m not sure Pinterest pulls any text automatically, just the image, and then you have to enter a description. Have you checked over at Pinterest? If they pull from an image description tag, then you can enter those for your images by editing them. If they pull from a caption, then you can enter captions for each of your images.
I’ll see if I can round up my Pinterest account information and do some testing, but it might be quicker to ask them directly, and tell them you are on WordPress.com.

Thank you for your help. The info I found on the Pinterest website said
to prep my website with meta tags or an oEmbed endpoint?? They say to loop in my website developer. Then to add recipes pins, add hRecipe or schema org markup to my site?? I don’t know if any of this pertains to a WordPress.com site or only self-hosted sites. Any idea?
Thanks…Mary Ann -
Hmmm, no that would be for self-hosted WordPress sites. We cannot edit or add to the theme files here at WordPress.com.

I went to http://thebeachhousekitchen.com/ and tried the steps you mentioned for your latest post. When I got to the part where I’m picking a board, I saw this: https://cloudup.com/cywOLbg8ijM
See how the Description field has “IMG_0154” in it? That probable matches up with your image file name which is the default if you do not update the titles for your image in your blog media library.
Here is a direct link to that image in your media library:
https://thebeachhousekitchendotcom.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php?item=335 (note: only you can see this when logged in, no one else can get to it)See the title field there? Try changing it from “IMG_0154” to something else and saving. Then wait a few minutes and try the pin steps again.

By the way :) that cream of mushroom soup looks amazing! I love the photos on your blog.

Thank you so much for your reply. I thought it may have something to do with the media library. I went in and changed the title from the image number to Classic Cream of Mushroom Soup and I checked it and I am guessing it worked. I went to pin it after I put in the changes and the photos with the image numbers on them still show up and the reader who pins it then has to pick what photo they want to pin, but now the description (Classic Cream of Mushroom Soup) is there so they do not have to put in a title. Can u check again to make sure it is right. Thanks for your help and your compliment on the photos! The recipe is easy!

I tested it again, and I can see “Classic Cream of Mushroom Soup” for the description after I pick an image and see the window where I can add it to a Pinterest board.
Looks great!
and the photos with the image numbers on them still show up and the reader who pins it then has to pick what photo they want to pin
That part looks to me like it’s controlled by Pinterest. As for the numbers on the photos, it looks like image dimensions to me. I’m not sure why the add that. :) It’s not something you can control since it’s set up on their side.

I went to another bloggers site and pinned something she had and the photos with the numbers on them came up too so I’m ok. Thanks!

Quick question.,,,Whwn I was on my site today I clicked the pinterest button under mybrecipe for sweet potato pie and the pictures for the mushroom soup (previous post) came up? Not sure why, any ideas how to fix that? Thanks,,,,.Mary Ann

I figured it out. The reader cannot pin from the home page. They have to click on the recipe and go from there. Thanks.
