Pinterest Sharing Numbers on Icon & Text button style

    I’ve recently noticed that the Icon & Text button style now displays the number of shares on the Pinterest sharing button. I purposely chose the Icon & Text button style so this information wouldn’t display.

    According to the support document on Adding Social Sharing buttons, the only button style that should show the number of shares is the Official Button style.

    Hey there –

    I’ll be glad to help sort out what’s going on with the Pinterest sharing button.

    It looks like you have not registered a custom domain yet which is included with the personal plan you have. Domains are important because they amplify our built in SEO tools at WordPress.com. They’ll also provide a more branded presence for your project online which is appealing to visitors.

    The current sharing buttons are configured to use “Icon + Text”. Have you tried changing those up to see if the numbers continue to share on the only Icon option? Let me know if that makes any difference.

    Thanks for your reply. I did change the sharing button style, but the number of Pinterest shares continues to display.

    As far as adding a custom domain, I’m happy using my .wordpress.com address, since that’s the one I’ve used since 2006, and that’s the biggest SEO factor I have going for me. Regardless, the advanced SEO tools are available only in the Business plan+ and that is out of my retiree budget. :)

    I’m not sure if this is yet a known bug, but some improvements were made in March of this year, so I’m asking internally if this may be the result of these changes.

    I’ll be sure to circle back when I have more information on this thread.

    Seeing as how two weeks have passed and as this is not an earth-shattering issue, I’ve gone ahead and “hidden” the Pinterest button behind the More sharing button.

    I’m sure someone will get around to investigating and hopefully correcting this at some point. Thanks in the meantime.
