Pique bugs
-
I finally found the perfect theme, Pique, for my movie site.
Only problem is, there appear to be two small but annoying bugs in it…1) On the homepage, the amount of space between the header and first block is enormous and doesn’t seem to be adjustable. It’s a space for “Title” but the title is in the header so it’s redundant and needs to be deleted.
2) In the media block with our cast members, the alignment and font of the text in the left column (the male actors) doesn’t seem to be changeable. I want it right-flushed and the same font as the female actors. In the editor they are all uniform and correct but when published the font and alignment change.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
On the homepage, the amount of space between the header and first block is enormous and doesn’t seem to be adjustable.
Are you referring to this space?
If so, that is not a bug but a design choice. You would be able to change it with some custom CSS, although that’s available on plans Premium and above.
I want it right-flushed and the same font as the female actors. In the editor they are all uniform and correct but when published the font and alignment change.
Hmm, I see the exact same alignment in your editor, and on the published site. The font is also the same for both female and male actors. I wonder if you’re seeing something else on your end. Could you share a screenshot of what you see? You can use an online tool for that (such as https://snipboard.io/) and paste the link into your reply.
You can also contact support via https://wordpress.com/help/contact, if you prefer. -
Thank you for the quick reply.
I am traveling today and so will have to post the screenshots later.
Is it possible the WordPress interface doesn’t display accurately on older browsers? I’m using Firefox 2016

That could definitely be a problem. Officially we can only support the current version of browsers and one version back, so for Firefox that would be versions 89 and 88.
Can you update your browser? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-release
If not, can you try a different browser? https://browsehappy.com

I took a look in Firefox 78.11.0esr (64-bit), which is the latest version available to my 2020 Mac Mini.
and here is how that displays on the homepage…
Note the alignment changes: the text is supposed to be flushed toward the center axis but instead headings are centered and text is left-flushed.
I have changed those attributes and the page says they are accepted, but then nothing is different when viewed. Hard to see how that could be a browser problem, as I have not had this problem with any other theme.

(oops sorry for bad formatting)

Thanks for the additional screenshots. One thing to be aware of is that Pique is one of the older themes that we offer, and was created before we had a “block editor” in this case.
Because of this, some block styles (such as text alignment) are not recognized on the homepage of the site, since the Pique homepage uses unique styles to create the appearance you see in the demo here: https://piquedemo.wordpress.com/
You will notice on the demo that all text on the homepage is centered or justified to the left. There is no right-justification of text on the homepage of this theme so it does not recognize it in your block settings.
Because your theme was intended to have this appearance it’s not technically a bug so we would not address it in that way. You can however upgrade to our Premium plan (which includes custom CSS as an option) and that would allow you to override the theme default behavior, so that text is justified to the right as you are wanting.
If you do not know CSS we can help with the code you need since it’s a relatively simple tweak. Learn more about our WordPress.com Premium Plan here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/

Huh.
So, given all that, why does it correctly right flush on our Cast page? -
As I mentioned, the homepage template for Pique is unique, and has it’s own styles that are needed to create the look of the demo… this theme was originally envisioned as a way to create a “one page site” with sections you can jump to from links in the menu.
However, if you do use it to create a more standard “multi-page” site, the internal pages you create use a different style from the homepage, and that allows the style settings of the blocks to work correctly. If you were to temporarily set the “Cast” page as your homepage however, the text alignments would no longer work. Essentially any page you set as your “homepage” will have this issue due to the way this theme is coded.
However, as I mention this can be overridden using the CSS function in the Premium plan. It’s not possible to override that on a free site or site on our Personal plan however.

Huh. Okay, thanks for the explanation. Think I’m just gonna take a screenshot of the correct layout and drop that in on the homepage.
