Pique Theme Background image

  Hello,

  i am in the process of making a website with wordpress for a friend. I chose the Pique theme and everything works fine except that i can’t put an image as the background for the header. I already found out that it is only possible to achieve that with custom CSS. Since i am a beginner i really don’t know what to do. I found some code snippets but it didn’t say were to add them in the CSS code n stuff. Can someone pls help me with this?
  I already set the image as the background but it only shows for a few miliseconds when the page refreshes. Then the pique theme colour seems to be layed over the background image. So the background image is not longer visible.
