Pique theme front page header art
-
In the Pique theme: I cannot get the header art onto the front page. I’m not using panels and don’t want to. I have a static front page, and all I want is for the header art to be on the front page. It’s on the other pages, but I can’t get it to be on the home page.
This theme is frustrating. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The Pique theme is designed to have a different-looking front page if you use a static page and not a list of your recent posts. I’m not sure there’s a way to have the front page display the same as your regular pages if that’s the look you’re after.

I’m working with Nancy on this. We’ve seen the demo and other sites have a consistent header art on each pageview of this Theme. Do you know for sure that it is impossible, and very odd, that Pique does not allow header art on the static front page? It does on all other Pages.
Thanks.

Hi Nancy and Lorelle,
Luke is right that there isn’t a way to get Pique’s home page to display the same as other pages on your site. The home page is especially designed to stand out from other pages.
You could set a featured image to your static front page, which will then display as a background image. This would enable you to incorporate your header art on the front page, although it would still have a different feel to the other pages on your site.
If that doesn’t work for you, perhaps you could consider a different theme? Gateway, Baskerville, and Karuna are examples of themes that support custom headers across all pages.
Let me know what you think about the above options or if you have any extra questions.

Thank you for the response! Okay, it looks like I won’t be able to use Pique. My second choice was Argent, which I like because the static front page allows a short blurb but other than that resembles the other pages (it looks like the other pages but is just longer to accommodate the blurb). Could you you tell me a few things about this theme?
1. On the front page, can I have the header with the blurb and background image and menu and title as shown on the Argent demo page, and then have widgets just below that?
2. Can I change the default colors? I know it’s set up to be black and white (e.g, silver, or argent), but what if I want to have a colored bar? Or a colored font?
Thanks for you help! -
Also, I assume Argent is mobile-friendly? And is it a very new theme (meaning there might be a lot of bugs)? Thanks.

Hi Nancy.

Yes, that’s possible. If you don’t add any portfolio items to your site, then the footer widgets will be displayed immediately below the blurb.
2. Can I change the default colors? I know it’s set up to be black and white (e.g, silver, or argent), but what if I want to have a colored bar? Or a colored font?
You can experiment with different background colours, which will also change the site’s font, under our free plan.
If you’d like some further options and greater control over the colours of the theme, you could consider upgrading to WordPress.com Premium or Business. Both of those plans include Custom Design options.
Also, I assume Argent is mobile-friendly? And is it a very new theme (meaning there might be a lot of bugs)? Thanks.
Argent was launched in our repository in June, 2015 and, you’re right, it is mobile friendly. :)

And the featured image on the home page: Does it need to be precisely the height shown, or can it be a height that is lesser? Thanks.

The featured image can be any size you choose but will be cropped depending on the size of the device the site’s being viewed on. With this in mind, it’s best to upload featured images that are decorative or abstract, and can handle some cropping.
