Pique theme – on actual tablet and phone it is not responsive like demo

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello – I applied the Pique theme today to my site and even though it said it is responsive and I checked it to see how it would look by selecting the tablet and phone view while I was setting it up, now on real mobile and real tablet it is not adjusting. Instead it is shrinking down so that you see the entire site instead of adjusting as shown in the tablet and phone views on the admin site. Can someone please tell me how to fix this?

    thanks

    Hey there,

I’m not sure I get you fully. I checked out your site from my phone and its loading fine, that is, it is responsive for my device. Can you please share a screenshot of what you are seeing (Instructions) and post a link to it over here? If so, that would be really helpful in understanding your query.

Hello – I have opened the website several times on my phone. What I have found is if I go to the wordpress URL it is responsive. If I go to the main URL name which is aejonesauthor.com (which is through Go Daddy) it is not adjusting the screens. It is showing the entire screen shot like you would see on a PC but it is tiny. I have been doing some research online – does this have to do with the forward and masking functionality? Is there a workaround for this? Or do I have to turn off masking to get it to work?
    thanks

Yes, you’ve figured it out by yourself – it’s because you’re loading it inside a frame. You should instead map the domain name to your WordPress.com site.

But you will be needing an upgraded WordPress.com plan on your site in order to map it.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks. The personal plan would allow me to do this? Also, if I map the domain, how does that impact SEO since my site has been up for years.

Also, if I have internal links on the site to other pages, will those links update automatically with the new domain URL. For example, if you click a book on my home page, it takes you to the internal wordpress URL for that book page. If I map to the main domain name, will all the pages URL’s change and if so, will that break my links?

If I change from masking to forward at Go Daddy, would that fix the issue in the short term until I can determine what impact the mapping would have?

    thanks

Yes. It’s only masking that breaks themes’ responsiveness. Forwarding instead would eliminate the problem.

No links will break, as both the old and new domains will continue to work. Search engines will update their indexes over time to index your new custom domain.
